Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca discussed transfers as Omar Marmoush potentially prepares to follow Savinho to Tottenham Hotspur

Enzo Maresca stated that Omar Marmoush has not yet requested to depart Manchester City, though the club will sign a replacement should he pursue the same path as Savinho to Tottenham. Spurs have reached a £75million agreement with City for Savinho, encompassing a further £5m guaranteed addition and a possible additional £5m, and are now working to finalise a move for Marmoush.
Maresca has been candid about Marmoush weighing up other opportunities following limited first-team appearances last season. Tijjani Reijnders has already departed for similar reasons, whilst Newcastle are attempting to lure Nico Gonzalez to the north-east with the promise of increased involvement.
City are prepared to allow Marmoush to leave, but Maresca emphasised that a replacement will be secured should the Egyptian depart. Despite the difficulty in persuading players with intentions to leave to remain, the club recognises the necessity of recruitment should departures be sanctioned.
The Egyptian international remains at the club and presents a different circumstance to Savinho, according to Maresca, who explained that Savinho had made his desire to leave clear from the very beginning whilst Marmoush has not yet done so.
Managing departures and arrivals simultaneously always presents challenges. The club will assess whether Marmoush remains or what transpires. Should any players depart, additional options will certainly be pursued. When individuals are resolute about seeking new opportunities, whether they wish to move to Spain or secure more regular game time, convincing them to stay becomes particularly difficult. This situation has arisen with Rodri and is currently unfolding with Savinho, who has been unambiguous since the start about his wish to move on. The club now awaits developments, though retaining players who are determined to pursue a different challenge proves challenging.
City supporters have grown uneasy regarding the summer transfer dealings, with Rodri, Savinho, and Reijnders all sanctioning exits within the past week and no arrivals to compensate for any of them. A transfer for Ayyoub Bouaddi remains incomplete, there is no certainty surrounding a deal for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, and interest in Palmeiras winger Allan has done little to ease concerns.
Significant work remains for City, yet Maresca appeared untroubled as he outlined that the club identified their requirements from the window’s outset and anticipate executing their plans before closure at early September.
The club has neither a minimum nor maximum target for signings, and results will not alter their approach or philosophy. They have complete clarity on their requirements and will assess developments over the coming period.
